Michael Eyers, the current President of Essex RFU  was very honoured to welcome Deborah Griffin OBE, the current RFU President, as guest of honour to his Presidents Dinner.  Deborah has made history as the first woman to hold the position when she was appointed this year. She was a former player and helped establish the Women’s Rugby Football Union in the 1980’s and chaired the organising committee for the first Women’s Rugby Word Cup in 1991.

At the Dinner, Ivor Smith and Gerry Mansfield were both awarded life membership awards in recognition of their incredible service to Rugby in the county over many years.

Whilst in Essex, Deborah attended a grassroots rugby game at Writtle Wanderers vs Millwall meeting the clubs respective presidents John Stipmson and Kate Roy
