Playing Calendar
We publish a playing calendar each year – in it you will find details of the dates of the various age grade competitions, fixtures and representative rugby opportunities from u13 upwards. It allows clubs to plan other fixtures and events in free weekends around our local competitions. We also indicate where the various school competitions take place and with the growth in the girls game where we have league, cup and national competitions.
When planning a season we aim to avoid clashes with half terms and days like Remembrance Sunday and Mothers Day where clubs may be short of players.
This calendar ensures that national competitions, Player Development Group sessions and CB/ representative rugby is delivered across the country at a consistent time. It enables us to arrange, balance and publish competitions and activities in advance of the season. All national competitions and player pathway/representative rugby are played in the defined weeks of the national calendar and cannot be moved. The Age Grade Playing Calendar is part of the age grade rugby regulations of the game (Regulation 15).
The Calendar does not prevent Clubs and schools/colleges from playing friendly or block fixtures at any time within the season. It does provide visibility of the various competitions that exist in order to help manage player load.
