Message from the President
Thursday, 18 September 2025
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and welcome you all to the 2025/26 season. It is a great honour for me to take on the role as President of Essex Rugby.
I have been the Chair of Education on the Essex County Board for a number of years supporting the development of schools rugby in Essex. I have also supported schools rugby at England level, where I am an Honorary Life Member of the ERFSU. As a London Society Referee Advisor and Coach, I have also visited many clubs over the years, and have gotten to know some great club personnel.
Like all volunteers I have set my own targets for the next two years. My main aim is to visit every club in the county and to meet the many hard working club people who keep our game afloat in their communities. I feel we need to expand our thoughts on how to increase participation and opportunities to everyone, at all age groups, I am convinced that this can be done by sharing good practice between clubs. There is some outstanding excellence within Essex. Check out other club’s websites, see what they are doing. Let’s learn from each other and build a better future for rugby in our home county.
Our committee has a vast amount of experience and knowledge and are here to offer support to your club. Check the website to find our contact details, and we will do our best to help.
I hope to see you all at some point during the season. Do not hesitate to contact me if you would like my help with presentations or other club events.
I started at Witham RUFC on the 10th August, it was a cracking afternoon out. What a fantastic group of people – community rugby at its best.
Our game is special, it brings people together. It challenges us, but it also makes us better people. Here’s to a great season moving forward.
Yours
Mick Eyres
President of Essex Rugby
